Wisdom ChallengE

for brooklyn arts council

April 2024

I made 30 watercolor cards in 30 days to raise money for Brooklyn public schools that have lost arts funding! Each card was inspired by a book I love, and I checked in for a minute everyday with my progress. At the end of the Challenge, 30 people who donated got a card in the mail! Thanks so much to everyone who supported the cause!

WHY THIS CAUSE?

Making art has been a huge influence in my life, so when I read about $3M in NYC public school art funding getting used by some principals for things other than art, I wanted to do something about it.

Only 40% of Central Brooklyn public schools have an art teacher to begin with, so losing money for supplies really sucks. Kids (particularly in lower-income communities) benefit so much these programs.

Brooklyn Arts Council facilitates collaborative art experiences in K-12 public schools. They’re doing important work and I want to support them.

Your donation will put more paintbrushes in the hands of under-privileged NYC kids!

WHY THIS CHALLENGE?

When I paint, my life flows better. But it’s the first thing to get ignored when I get busy...which is pretty much all the time.

So I want to be accountable to my own creative ambition, to the peace it gives me, and to the joy I feel when one of my pieces ends up at a friends’ door.

Thank you so much for your support!!!
